Current Volunteer Opportunities
Owensboro Health Teen Volunteer Program: VolunTeen
Applications are now being accepted for the summer OH Teen Volunteer Program. Many of our students do this each year and gain a lot from the experience! The program will begin with a mandatory 2-day orientation scheduled for early June. The volunteer program provides an excellent opportunity for teens to learn about various hospital careers first-hand while giving valuable service to the hospital and its patients. To be a VolunTeen at Owensboro Health you must be at least 14 years of age and able to volunteer a minimum 4- hour shift each week. You must have your parents or guardian sign a permission form and be willing to receive a tb skin test administered by our employee health nurses. Teens 13 years of age may be permitted to volunteer if their parents work for Owensboro Health. The teens will be supervised by a team leader and management staff in volunteer services. The applications are usually due in early May. Once the applications have been reviewed you will receive written notice by mail outlining the orientation schedule and forms to be completed and returned to the volunteer office.

Hands Alive Fair for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing
For students who are deaf, hearing is just another hurdle in the race of life, a hurdle that can be overcome. Deaf and hard of hearing students across the region come out every year to the Annual Hands Alive Fair at Yellow Creek Baptist Church in Owensboro.
We participated in this event last the last two years with a Crime Scene Investigation Activity. The Fair is usually in March and our activity is usually from 12-1:30 PM. We will need 4-5 LSA students to help run the activity booth. We can do the Crime Scene again or a topic of your choice! Sign up if you'd like to be involved!

Owensboro Museum of Science & History: Summer Workshops
This was a really great series the last two summers. LSA students run a series of four 2-hour workshops for students ages 8-12 at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.
1) Who Done It? The Science Behind Crime Scene Investigation
2) Have a Heart! Dissection & Experimentation
3) Eye Can See You! The Inner Workings of the Human Eye
4) Patient Zero and the Zombie Apocalypse: The Science of an Outbreak
These workshops are usually on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in June. Do you have a good idea? Get a group of your LSA friends together and plan activities on whatever topic you'd like! Sign up if you'd like to be involved!
